Gonna Be Late For Work, Again

This piece contains two of my favorite elements:  someone completely dressed with their appendage exposed, and one of those old-timey classic, red vinyl and chrome kitchen chairs. This isn't the best of my efforts in that chair style but it is evocative enough to trigger that instant recognition factor. I think that providing familiar props (nowadays it's probably more often a television or computer monitor) automatically gives the viewer a sense of comfortability. I don't know exactly what the story was for this illustration but the guy in the chair interacted with a pair of twin clowns and a bagpipe playing Scotsman in other drawings. Perhaps it was about Mardi Gras but the absence of beads makes me wonder....
