As an artist my job is to give depth and dimension to what is obviously a flat surface. That contradiction is with me all the time but I was more acutely conscious of that fact for a few months long ago and decided to represent the idea by having a feature emerge from a flat area while tricking the eye by having the entire scene wrought from a single page. In essence I was drawing on flat--adding depth---displaying flat---becoming dimensional. It was a concept, a sort of visual game that I created quite a lot of during that time. I probably should've waited until I had better skills. If I did it now it would be much more detailed and the contrasts more apparent. I don't believe this one was ever published.
