The President of
the United States conferred with the Roman Catholic Pope on the
issue of stem-cell research. That’s pretty creepy to begin with. I
was raised Catholic (but escaped) so I think I’m entitled to pipe
in here a second. According to the Pope nobody is supposed to
interfere with procreation in any way. No abortions, no queers, no
condoms or pills are allowed, just make babies endlessly. It’s in
the bible. The mandate is proclaimed by god himself, so there’s no
argument to be had. Aren’t there already enough people in the
world? Haven’t we consumed enough space on the planet yet? Other
life forms are becoming extinct as we defile their habitats,
humans are spreading like an unchecked plague across the globe. To
what end? What happens to god’s edict when every square inch of
the earth is populated by humans, every resource squeezed dry, and
nowhere but zoos and food factories for the other species to
survive? How many humans is too much? I know that conglomerates
and corporations want more and more consumers for their products,
but at what point do we collectively agree that life other than
our own deserve a patch of space to exist in? At what point do we
know that birthing one more child to eat McDonalds and drink
Coca-Cola is not the wisest choice? How are they going to
reinterpret the holy words when we’re all shoulder to shoulder,
crammed onto every plane of existence possible? That’s why these
church decrees are all useless, they were framed in a time when
farming was all, everyone died pretty fast, and new “Christian
Soldiers” were needed to slaughter anyone not on their particular
worship path. All those books and ideas are obsolete and it’s time
to hoist them on their collective petard.
