She Said She Was Gonna Do It...
by Michael Kirwan
There was
this "case" in the news a few weeks back about a family (Dad, Mom and
two doubtlessly adorable children) that had parked at a scenic lookout
while touring Bear Mountain in upstate NY. He got out of the SUV to
take photos of the inspiring landscape (in front of plenty of
witnesses) and Wifey put the automobile in gear and plummeted down the
steep embankment in an attempt to kill herself and the kiddies.
Dramatic footage, the children are unharmed thanks to their safety
harnesses, the Mrs. reduced to a stunning example of smashed corpsedom,
the media is in a frenzy to lay blame for this family tragedy on
someone. The man was arrested because his spouse had been making
suicidal threats for years and he had apparently "facilitated" her
death by leaving her in the car unattended. He "endangered" the
welfare of his children by stepping away and leaving them with their
mother. The callous brute! Even though he was yards away snapping
pictures of trees and mountains, getting a few minutes respite from
the woman's constant blather, he was led away in handcuffs. Somebody
has got to be responsible! He won't fair well in the judicial system.
He's Asian (there might be language/cultural issues), not terribly
attractive (although that didn't help Scott Peterson---whom I could
have gotten off by supplying an equally plausible theory to the very
lame case presented by the State) and seemed guilty of the most
grievous offense known to the American way of life, he didn't seem to
really care. No screaming, collapsing or boo-hooing. This guy
refrained from gnashing his teeth and pulling clumps of hair from his
head whilst demanding an explanation from God. He seemed, if anything,
peeved that the stupid bitch had crashed his car and left him with no
obvious egress from the winding road of the mountainside, charming
though the lookout was. If a suspect is too cold they're guilty. If
their histrionics are too over-the-top they are guilty. There is a
very narrow margin of bereavable behaviors that are legally accepted
if someone close to you is murdered or, as in this case, takes their
own life. She told him over and over and over again for YEARS that she
was going to kill herself and their offspring. He was supposed to do
SOMETHING to prevent her from carrying out this regrettable business.
Right?
So it seems that nowadays a man must sit atop his dopey wife to
prevent her from harming herself. I must say, I'm shocked that one of
the "A Woman's Right To CHOOSE" activists haven't objected to the man
being required to stymie the heartfelt wishes of his mate. If any
husband should have been taken to task about his woman's homicidal
activities it should have been Russell "Rusty" Yates when his demented
pet wife drowned her 5 little "angels". Sheesh. He kept pounding her
into breeding an army (despite a documented postpartum history),
installing her in a "renovated" school bus, demanding that she home
school the brats and destroying her mind with religious zealotry of
the most strident variety. I think there was even an elderly relation
suffering with Alzheimer's disease thrust on this unfortunate creature
to make sure her burden was absolutely ridiculous. If the Asian dude
goes down for his wife's bit of "Thelma & Louise"-like theatrics,
somebody should indict Rusty Yates for being the true agency of his
children's watery demise.
Just a
tangential aside here....I believe it was on the "Abrams Report" where
I saw one of those profoundly irritating professional legal woman
commentators calling for the Asian husband to be strung up by his
balls for "encouraging" or "enabling" or "allowing" his crazy wife to
kill herself and endanger the two dumplings. She (the "lawyer-woman)
was reaching into every cranny she could find to tag this guy as the
default murderer. It seems that no woman is actually responsible for
her own self-destructive actions. Anyway, this severely coifed
"Talking Head" adamantly insisted that between husbands and wives
there exists such a profound bond of understanding and communication
that the camera-wielding man HAD TO KNOW that his wife was capable of
this desperate deed at the scenic stop-over. I fired off a
surprisingly unacknowledged email that pointed out that husbands,
boyfriends, and male coworkers can only survive the company of women
at all by so tuning them out that the endless nonsensical ramblings,
screeches and chirping emitting from the ladies barely registers as
human noise let alone comprehensible language. I would imagine that a
mate who routinely employs the "I'm gonna KILL myself!" tirade gets
tuned-out even more profoundly since after each whiny threat the bitch
is still sitting THERE. That this TV "expert" should proclaim that
there could be no possibility whatsoever that this man didn't
immediately comprehend the true depth of his wife's determination to
finally make good on her suicidal nagging is......troubling. It's
almost shocking how many of these (predominantly female)
consultants/interviewees/"regular contributors"/spokesmodels/hired
shills (does anyone else out there find Nancy Grace uncompromisingly
repulsive?) impose ultimate judgments on the situations they're called
upon to weigh in on. It's funny how these myths and assumptions become
emphatic declarations when delivered by someone with a suit, regular
teeth and a book deal. Men should naturally "hear" what the women in
their lives are saying! Hahahaha!!!!! Oh, boy. That's rich.
But I had a point to make. This husband committed no real crime (other
than marrying a nut) but he is accused and will probably be convicted
anyway. There is a whole new set of "thought" crimes that
(mysteriously) the free citizens of this country have signed on to in
recent years. If you hit another car or damage property or run over
someone whilst driving, THEN you have committed a crime whether you
are intoxicated or not. Being drunk behind the wheel is not hurting
anyone or anything and therefore shouldn't be an illegal act. Just
because it may increase the probability that a person might have an
accident is not of itself a criminal act. If the police stop someone
who is driving erratically (but nothing more) they should put them in
a cab and impound the car. Period. That's it. But instead there are
violations, there is community service, there is mandatory AA courses,
there is a host of obnoxious penalties for the "sin" of drinking. If
an actual crime has been committed then punishment should be meted out
to the offender regardless of their blood-tox levels. But for simply
being in a position to kill, maim or destroy property, not actually
doing any of these things? Solely being inebriated should not be a
reason to turn someone's life upside down. It's a thought crime.
Another "crime" that has been insinuated into our national conscience
is "Conspiracy to Commit...." a vague, nebulous indictment originally
proposed to ensnare racketeers who had outwitted the feds for decades.
The reason I'm mentioning it is that recently there was a news blurb
about a group of "Terrorist Conspirators!!!" out of Liberty City,
Florida delivered in triumphant terms just in time to eclipse the (not
really so) secret government banking-spying business. I was frankly
dumfounded that the NSA/FBI/HSA (I'm guessing that's what the Homeland
Security Agency is tagged as. It might be something more elaborate and
imposing. Who cares? Just another police department as far as I can
tell) felt that stopping these guys from doing anything TERRORISTIC
could be such a noteworthy achievement. Honestly, I've lived in Miami
and am fairly familiar with Liberty City and if these guys couldn't
get it together enough to escape from that dismal slum there wasn't a
chance in Hell that they could pose even a farcical threat to the
Nation' pillars. I'm not joking. Liberty City is easily one of the
poorest, dumpiest, most pathetic eyesores on the planet and the few
residents who haven't managed to get the fuck out of there are so
brain-dead that it's startling. 70% illiterate, 60% unemployed. All
the roads around Miami are built to prevent stray tourists from
accidentally even SEEING Liberty City. These people have no money, no
brains and mediocre drug habits. Their particular brand of Islamic
beliefs are a horrifying blend of prison pseudo-indoctrination, voodoo
hoodoo and crack-induced visions all wrapped up in some very cheap
costuming. For crying out loud, they were beseeching the undercover
operative for FOOTWEAR!
I especially love the "conspiracy!" charges made against some dumb
clown who pays off a faux hitman to kill the troublesome spouse or
conniving associate. Caught on film handing over the envelope with the
first installment of cash, right there on tape giggling while
insisting that the other party be truly dead and not just roughed up.
But again, no real crime has been committed and the forfeiture of the
down payment and the humiliation of having the secret footage aired on
television (which should prove adequate grounds for divorce) should be
the end of it. Thinking about someone's death, talking about getting
rid of a certain person, soliciting a devious goon to do the dirty
deed, none of these things actually results in a murder and as no one
is technically dead, where exactly is the crime? So now it becomes a
legal matter if you speculate, postulate or just dream of knocking off
a heavily insured wife or a weasel-like business rival? When did the
American populace decide that simply expressing an interest in a
criminal enterprise should result in jail time? When did mere plotting
escalate into a penitentiary sentence? I don't get it. I don't
understand why a people who espouse freedom and liberty and justice
could allow the government to turn THINKING about doing something
awful into a punishable offense. And where does it end? Right now
America has more citizens incarcerated per capita than any other
nation in HISTORY (including Stalinist Russia) and with the advent of
these new ("National Security" facilities where the suspects are
detained unindicted, untried, unproven guilty and secret) prison camps
how long will it be before regular Americans begin disappearing into
these places? We've given our government the power to run unsupervised
concentration camps. What term will they apply to the homegrown
version of "enemy combatants"? At what point will simply disagreeing
with government policy result in being whisked off into a black van in
the dead of night...and eventually see Americans abducted in a daytime
crowd setting? As they push fear and paranoid propaganda further down
our throats as a means of cowing and controlling us, are we going to
be capable of raising our voices in dissent? Look at all of these
recent "Exposes" where men are tricked into thinking that they've made
a connection with some underage Lolita via the internet. The "girls"
being violated DO NOT EVEN EXIST yet all of those poor fools are led
away in chains after being roughly subdued by the police. It may be
distasteful but it shouldn't be a criminal matter unless someone is
ACTUALLY HARMED. That the media continues to showcase this scenario
over and over again is just another way that we are being acclimated
to the notion of "Thought Crime" as REAL crime. These guys may be
sleazy and degenerate but wanting to fuck a kid is not the same as
fucking one. The humiliation of being thusly entrapped and having your
name and predilection known to the authorities should be sufficient
punishment. We should all be questioning these tactics and the broader
meaning behind these methods. If thinking like a "terrorist" or like a
"child molester" is enough to get you locked away, how soon will it be
when some of your own thoughts or ideas or opinions are reason enough
for them to come after you? Think about it. Or maybe you should think
no such thing. "Thought Crimes" are the calling card of the
Totalitarian State. Like I said; if nothing is stolen, no one hurt or
killed, no property damaged, then no criminal activity has occurred.
Just being capable of doing one of these things, or talking about it
or even making motions to arrange for it to happen STILL shouldn't be
illegal in a "free" country. Later.
